Assam Trinamool CongressAssam Trinamool Congress (TMC) President Dipen Pathak and two other party leaders resigned today in protest against party Chief and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s remarks against final draft of the NRC.
Ms. Banerjee has opposed the updation of NRC and excluding the name of 40 lakh people from it.
Mr Pathak a former MLA from Hajo, said the interest of Assam can’t be compromised.
Two more TMC members — Pradip Pachani of Sibsagar and Diganta Saikia of Golaghat also resigned, saying they cannot remain members of a party that wants to compromise the identity of indigenous Assamese people.
Meanwhile, 3 FIRs have been registered against Mamata Banerjee in Assam.
