India-born Akshay Venkatesh gets the Fields Medal, also called Noble Prize in maths

The Indian origin mathematician Akshay Venkatesh was awarded the Fields Medal for the year 2018 along with 3 other recipients. The Fields Medal is also known as the Nobel Prize of Mathematics, and is awarded to the most promising mathematicians under the age of 40. 36-year-old Akshay Venkatesh teaches at Stanford University. The Delhi-born mathematician had done his PhD at the age of 20. He was awarded the Fields Medal due to his research and achievements in areas like the number theory, arithmetic geometry and topology.
