Subarnapur farmers gherao PACs

Hundreds of farmers of different villages gheraoed the Beheramal Primary Agriculture Cooperative Societies (PACs) in Dunguripali block on Wednesday protesting nonpayment of crop insurance under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY).

The agitators alleged that though farmers had insured their crops, the Lambard Insurance Company is yet to disburse the insurance benefits. The farmers had cultivated paddy by taking loans from banks, they added.

They also mentioned that the insurance company had taken money as premium for insuring the crops.

However, the farmers have been deprived of getting insurance benefits due to lackadaisical attitude of the company, said farmer Himanshu Sahu.

Later, they called off the protest on the assurance made by Dunguripali Cooperative Bank Manager Sachhitananda Nayak and Supervisor Satrughna Dash. Nayak told the farmers that they would get their insurance benefits in the second phase.
