Likely to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi

Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao will leave on a three-day tour of New Delhi on Friday morning to take up with the Central government steps for issue of the amended Presidential Order in public employment and education to accommodate the new zonal system finalised by the State government.

Though the list of leaders Mr. Rao can meet will be decided only on his arrival in New Delhi, it was said he might call on Prime Minister Narendra Modi if required to impress upon him the dire need for formation of seven new zones and two multi-zones with a view to provide more opportunities for locals in employment.

Moreover, he will go to the capital at a time when the Parliament is in session which will help him meet Central Ministers of his choice to press for various other claims of the State government.

Sources said Mr. Rao will closely monitor final touches being given to enable amendment to the Presidential Order, now that the file has reached the Prime Minister’s Office after it was vetted by the Home and Law Ministries.

Mr. Rao was credited with the view that the new zonal system was inevitable to make the best use of formation of separate Telangana. The government increased the number of districts from 10 to 31 and reorganised zonal system with the aim to extend 95% reservation in jobs to locals to ensure the youth stayed back in their native villages and towns.

Mr. Rao had believed that the zonal system inherited by Telangana under the existing Presidential Order was a stumbling block in achieving the goal of jobs locally.
