Lapses found in record keeping, sanitation, says vigilance official

Major lapses at the social welfare hostels came to light during a series of surprise checks conducted by teams led by Regional Vigilance and Enforcement Officer T. Hari Krishna.

The teams assessed the ground realities at many hostels at Veeraghattam, Kotturu, Bathili, Jalumuru, Patapatnam, Ravivalasa, Maripivalasa and Kurupam in Srikakulam and Vizianagaram district recently, a press note released on Thursday quoted Mr. Hari Krishna as saying.

Be it maintaining sanitation or keeping records, many hostels were found to be negligent in ensuring the things in place.

“Many hostels were not maintaining bio-metric attendance and following the set menu at the hostel mess.

Major lapses were found in the maintenance of stock and purchase registers. The lavatories and bathrooms on many premises reeked of poor maintenance,” Mr. Hari Krishna said.

Compliance with rules

The release also added that the vigilance teams asked the hostel wardens to ensure compliance with the rules and regulations.

“With the initiative of the vigillance department, many hostels conducted the medical check-ups to the boarders and distributed uniforms which were otherwise gathering dusts in the stores,” added Mr. Hari Krishna.
