Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati criticised the NDA government at the Centre for trying to lure the backwards by bringing a Bill to provide Constitutional status to National Backward Commission.

“First the BJP should reply on its role during the implementation of Mandal Commission and why it had opposed it,” she said.

Mayawati also asked the BJP to reply as to why did it topple the VP Singh government over the Mandal Commission report.

In a statement released in Lucknow on Thursday, Mayawati said that the tabling of a Bill before Assembly elections in three Hindi speaking states shows the BJP’s political vested interest in luring the backwards.

“The BJP was trying to ditch the backwards like they did with Dalits and tribals in the country. The party has always ignored the backwards and delayed political, educational and employment oppurtunities to them,” she said.
