Kerala Chief Minister and senior CPM leader Pinarayi Vijayan visited Kauvery Hospital here, on Thursday and enquired about DMK chief M. Karunanidhi’s health from the latter’s son and working president M.K. Stalin and daughter Rajya Sabha MP Kanimozhi.
Emerging from the hospital, Mr. Vijayan said: “All of us saw Kalaignar... a fighter by birth. In his life, he fought in several fields. His condition has very much improved.”
When asked whether he met Mr. Karunanidhi in person, Mr. Vijayan said: “I discussed with his son [Mr. Stalin] and daughter [Ms. Kanimozhi]. Senior CPM leader G. Ramakrishnan was also present. In a tweet, later in the evening, Ranil Wickremesinghe, Sri Lankan Prime Minister, tweeted that he had spoken to Mr. Stalin, during his trip to India. It is learnt that he was here to visit Tirupathi.
Actor Sivakarthikeyan, former Kerala Minister Kunhalikutty, and K.M.Kader Mohideen of IUML also visited the hospital.
Mr. Karunanidhi, who was admitted to the hospital on Friday night, remained stable and was put through a transient step towards improving his lung function, the sources at the hospital said.
While rumours of him sitting on a chair circulated on social media all day, sources said it was part of a medical procedure.
