Bawana gang sharpshooter held

In an encounter that took place in the wee hours of Thursday at Sarai Kale Khan, the Delhi Police nabbed a 24-year-old criminal suspected to be the sharpshooter of Neeraj Bawana Gang. During the encounter, that ensued after police received tip off of the accused passing through the area, the accused sustained a bullet injury on his left leg in cross firing with police. However no policeman got injured as they were wearing bullet proof  jackets.

“The encounter took place near the Millennium depot in southeast Delhi's Sarai Kale Khan area at around 5:15 am. “Police had received tip off from the sources that Saddam Hussain, who is wanted in a firing case in the Kotla Mubarakpur and apart from this 7 other cases are also registered against him, would be passing from the Millennium depot on a motorcycle. Subsequently, a team of Delhi police laid a trap to arrest him,” said Devesh Chandra Srivastva, Joint Commissioner of Police, Southern range in a press conference.

“During the encounter, Hussain sustained a bullet injury on his leg due to which he was unable to run and was nabbed on the spot. He was immediately shifted to a nearby hospital. Even a police official sustained a bullet injury during the encounter but survived as he was wearing a bullet-proof jacket,” he added.

Hussain has been earlier charged with more than a dozen criminal cases on him and has also been sentenced to five years in jail and was recently released from jail 2 months ago.
