Steel Authority of India misses profit estimates

(Reuters) - missed analysts' estimates for quarterly profit on Friday, as it booked a one-time charge of 2.77 billion rupees ($40.38 million), including a provision for royalty payment to government.

However, higher income from its flagship located in helped the company post a net profit of 5.40 billion rupees for the quarter ended June 30, compared with a loss of 8.01 billion rupees a year earlier.

Analysts were looking for a profit of 7.46 billion rupees, according to I/B/E/S.

The company said the exceptional item included a provision of 1.44 billion rupees to government's royalty claim related to iron ore fines from August 1, 2009 to August 23, 2012.

Revenue from operations rose 22.5 percent to 159.07 billion rupees.
