Two ‘rail’ roads in Pallavaram cry for attention

These stretches provide connectivity to the Pallavaram railway station

Motorists and pedestrians taking Railway Station Road, Pallavaram, are waiting for a solution for more than five years. The stretch has caved in at many spots and is pothole-ridden, causing a lot of inconvenience to road-users. To avoid driving on the damaged portion, motorists swerve suddenly, much to the dismay of pedestrians. The stretch is lined with many commercial establishments, forcing pedestrians to walk in the carriageway. Matters worsen during the monsoon as the caved-in surfaces and the potholes get filled with rainwater. The stretch becomes too slushy and slippery, making it even more difficult for road-users. “Near the intersection of Kulakarai Theru and Railway Station Road, the speed-breaker is broken. Motorcyclists face the risk of skidding while negotiating the speed-breaker. Near the intersection of Annasamy Street and Railway Station Road, and Railway Station Road and Chavadi Street, the stretch is dotted with potholes and has caved in,” R. Satish, a resident of Pallavaram, said. Similarly, on Station Road, the portion till the foot overbridge, connecting the eastern and western sides of Pallavaram, is rocky and has caved-in.
