The Minister of State for women and child welfare Rekha Arya started a panic button app, meant to ensure the safety of women, on Thursday. This would be connected with the mobile GPS which would help the police department to trace the location. This has been launched as a pilot project in the State, she said.

It is learnt that the panic button is one which will be connected to the mobile application (app) of android phones. It is handy to even fit in the mobile key ring.

The app will be linked to the GPS system which will be able to trace the location of the phone call.  However, the phone must have the internet access. The app will also have 12 registered mobile links which will have the number of police and family members. In 30 seconds after the button is pressed, a message of danger would reach all the contacts linked in the application. If the button is pressed mistakenly the message can be cancelled within 30 seconds.

Currently, the button is available in Amazon shopping application. The Government will look forward to lower the rate to reach it to the common people.
