LUDHIANA: Upset with heaps of garbage strewn across the city, the Ludhiana
municipal corporation has issued a warning to A2Z
waste management company and directed the firm to improve its work within a week or some action would be taken against it.
The MC has been receiving several complaints regarding heaps of garbage in every nook and corner of the city, especially in the rainy season when there are strong chances of spread of diseases. The company has been asked either to perform or face consequences.
According to sources, there are chances that the civic body can terminate the contract of the company because of the objections raised by some senior officials at Chandigarh over hiring of two companies for garbage lifting. The MC had sought permission from senior officials for installing smart bins, but they have questioned the scheme saying that when A2Z was lifting garbage in the city then was not point in hiring any another agency.
Sources also revealed that there was a complaint against the company for charging money from the vegetable market vendors as well as the MC for lifting garbage from the same place. The company representatives were taken to task and were advised not to do such activities in future.
Meanwhile, municipal commissioner KP Brar has asked the company representatives to speed up the process of garbage lifting from city roads as it presented a bad image of the city. She directed the company officials to clear the garbage and improve their working within a week or face action. However, the company representatives have shown helplessness while saying that due to monsoon they were facing problems in lifting garbage at fast pace. They rued that sometimes vehicles get stuck on water logged roads and it becomes tough to lift garbage at that time.
