A 43-year-old man was arrested by Agripada police for allegedly raping his own daughter. The man allegedly raped his 16-year-old daughter four times in the past three months.
According to Hindustan Times, the incident came to light on Saturday, when the 16-year-old Class 10 student confided in ‘police didi’, city police’s initiative to reach out to sexually abused children. Agripada police station held a session, under the ‘Didi’ campaign’, at the teenager’s school on July 16. According to the 16-year-old girl’s teachers, she is among the brightest students in her class. She lives with her three younger brothers, parents and grandmother. The teachers observed that the girl was stressed. When one of the teachers confronted her, she did not reveal anything out of fear. Her mother was called to school by senior teachers, but her mother too told them that everything was alright.
A police officer told Mid-Day, “The girl confided in her mother, a maid, who said she was cooking up the story to avoid studies.” The Agripada police arrested the father, who works as a labourer, in April, while his wife and sons were out, he asked his mother-in-law to go outside, and then forced himself on the girl. This was repeated several times over the months.
The Agripada police have registered a case under IPC Section 376 (rape) and the POCSO Act. The father has been sent to police custody while the 16-year-old girl has been sent to Dongri shelter home.
