Among the four Class 12 students, two are from a government school while the others are students of an aided school. The fifth boy is a dropout. According to police, parents of some students noticed that ganja was being circulated among the students for the past few months. Following this, the parents began monitoring them for a week. 

On Wednesday, they noticed five boys standing outside the compound of Iyangarkulam Government Higher Secondary School and supplying small packets to the students during the lunch break. The parents surrounded the five boys and took them to the school principal. 

The principal said that another set of five students of the school, who were caught with the contraband, were suspended from the school a few months ago. However, she was threatened and forced to cancel the suspension. Explaining her position, she said that she doesn’t want to get involved in the latest ganja episode and advised the parents to take the five to the police station.

Following that, Kancheepuram Taluk Police were informed and they arrested the boys for further inquiry. The police said the boys were being questioned and the samples of the contraband seized from them were sent to a lab for verification. Police also said that they were trying to identify people behind the network that supplies ganja to students. 

Kancheepuram Chief Educational Officer (CEO) said that students would be counselled and given a chance, considering their future. He also noted that they would check all the schools in the district and counselling would be given those who are found using the narcotic.
