CRPF officers to learn nuances of the law

The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Law University (NLU), New Delhi, which aims at instructing the trainee officers of the force on various functional aspects of the law of the land. CRPF, being the lead force for maintenance of internal security of the country, often experiences close brushes with various legal issues. The MoU is expected to stand the officers in good stead in addressing the nuances of legal concerns especially during operations.

POWERGRID records 9% growth in net profit

Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID), a “Navratna” company under the Ministry of Power, Government of India, has posted a net profit of Rs 2,241 crore for the first quarter of FY 2018-19 (April-June, 2018), an increase of nine per cent against Rs 2,052 crore reported during the corresponding quarter ended June 30, 2017. The total income (turnover) for first quarter (April-June, 2018), rose to Rs 8,428 crore, up by 14 per cent from Rs 7,390 crore in the corresponding year ago. On a standalone basis, POWERGRID recorded a net profit of Rs 8,239 crore on a turnover of Rs 30,767 crore in the FY 2017-18. POWERGRID's Gross Fixed Assets stood at Rs 1,80,796 crore as on June 30. With the use of state-of-the-art maintenance techniques, the average availability of transmission system during the quarter (April- June 2018) was 99.68 per cent.

Zakir Hussain celebrates its Alma mater

To honour its immense pool of distinguished alumni, the Zakir Husain Delhi College recently hosted an alumni function and celebrated the appointment of Jagdish Tytler as the Chief Patron of the Zakirians Society at the head office of Sycoriaan Matrimonial Services Limited. Sycoriaan is a professionally managed matrimonial company, catering to the matrimonial requirements of a large number of people in India and abroad since 1996, maintaining a very large data base of marriage prospects. Digital OPD services at NRCH

The Northern Railway Central Hospital (NRCH) in New Delhi has opened its modernised and digitally enhanced OPD block at the referral and speciality wing. It was inaugurated by Vishwesh Chaube, the general manager of Northern Railways, and will offer medicine, surgery, orthopedics treatment and a skin OPD with a well-equipped skin procedure room. A phototherapy treatment facility is to be initiated soon. The block also houses an ECG Room and a surgical dressing room. For the convenience of the out- patients, a digitised OPD queue management system has been initiated to facilitate issuance of tokens to patients. Three computerised registration counters have also been opened to issue the doctor's slips.

Reward for exemplary services at the railways

The alertness and prompt actions of various railway employees have been the safety net to avert many possible accidents. To honour and recognise the spirit of responsibility and quick decision-making capacity of its employees, the Northern Railways conferred nine of them with the meritorious Safety Awards at a ceremony held at the organisation's headquarters in New Delhi. The awards were presented by Vishwesh Chaube, the general manager of Northern Railway, in the presence of Seema Kumar, the chief safety officer and the principal heads of all departments of Northern Railway.

A musical tribute to the master

To celebrate the occurrence of the full moon, the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA) has been organising the “Purnima Music Concerts.” A series of musical events, hosted every month, began with the recitation of Bombay Jayshree on the occasion of Buddha Purnima. On the occasion of Guru Purnima, IGNCA organised a unique programme — “Strings of Shahjahanpur” — where disciples of Padmabhushan Pandit Buddhadev Das Gupta of Senia Shahjahanpur Gharana paid a tribute to their master. Also in the series are performances by Manjusha Patil, Pandit Ronu Mazumdar and Jayanti Kumaresh. The programme rolled out in three parts — Gat Mala, an audio visual presentation on the history of the Seniya gharana and Sangeetanjali.

Journey of NLCIL captured in a book

Dr S K Acharya, CMD of NLCIL, has released a book titled The Journey of Neyveli Lignite Corporation to NLC India, A Growth Saga, co-authored by Dr R K Mishra and Shulagna Sarkar of the Institute of Public Enterprise, Hyderabad. The book covers the history, past performance and how recent policy decisions and the pan-India outlook of the corporation have brought transformational changes. It highlights the efforts of NLCIL in accomplishing its goals and shares the best practices in enabling a people-oriented culture.

CBI revises interest rates for foreign currency deposit

The Central Bank of India has revised the interest rates on FCNR-B Deposits effective from August 1. For a deposit of five years, the bank will now offer an interest rate of 3.70 per cent for US dollar, 1.89 per cent for GB pound, 0.83 per cent for Euro, 3.07 per cent for Canadian dollar and 3.04 per cent for Australian dollar deposit. These rates have been revised based on the rates announced by FEDAI on July 31 and will be valid till August 31.

AAI drive

The Airports Authority of India has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO) to conduct Cochlear Implant surgeries of 200 hearing impaired underprivileged children under the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative of AAI at a cost of Rs 13.41 crore. This CSR initiative of AAI will help the children to completely overcome their hearing disability.
