The rise of the public sector Neyveli Lignite Corporation India Ltd (NLCIL) to the status of a mining behemoth is now the subject of a book.
S.K Acharya, CMD, NLCIL, released the book, ‘The Journey of Neyveli Lignite Corporation to NLC India, A Growth Saga’ co-authored by R.K Mishra and Shulagna Sarkar of the Institute of Public Enterprise, Hyderabad, at a function in Chennai recently.
NLCIL Functional Directors Rakesh Kumar, V. Thangapandian, R. Vikraman and N.N.M Rao and other senior officials participated. According to an NLCIL press note, the book covers in depth the history, past performance and how recent policy decisions and pan India outlook of the corporation in letter and spirit brought transformational changes and led to a change of name, from the Neyveli Lignite Corporation to NLC India Limited (NLCIL).
It also highlights the efforts of NLCIL in accomplishing its goals and shares the best practices in enabling people-oriented culture.
It also pitches the light on how robust foundation is in place, pillars of growth have been established and the stage is set for a change in status of NLCIL from Navratna to Maharatna.
Also dealt with in details are the company leadership dimensions over the years and the efforts towards employee as well as stakeholder engagement. Dr. Mishra is ONGC Subir Raha chair professor of corporate governance and senior professor and director, Institute of Public Enterprise, Hyderabad, and Ms. Shulagna Sarkar, assistant professor at the Institute, a law graduate with a Ph.D in HRM.
According to NLCIL, the book, which combines the professional and academic experience of both authors and balances the theoretical against the industrial aspects, provides inputs and various dimensions of organisational growth elements.
It also fulfils the needs of a diverse range of groups such as mining and power sector experts, industrialists, academicians, student community, researchers and industry analysts, the press note said.
