The Indian cricket team did not have a great start to their first Test against England at Edgbaston and the first two sessions were mostly dominated by the hosts. With Joe Root at his disciplined best, the visitors struggled to take wickets and it was perhaps the reason behind coach Ravi Shastri falling asleep during the second session of the encounter.

With England on 156/3, the television cameras captured Shastri taking a nap in the Indian dressing room and commentator Harbhajan Singh did not miss the chance to mock Shastri.

“Ravi Shastri having a nap there. Wake up, Ravi!” said Harbhajan as other commentators around him burst into a laugh.

Indian cricket team batting coach Sanjay Bangar, who was seated next to Shastri, was wearing a earpiece and listening to the commentary. He soon got this request from Harbhajan: “Sanjay, can you convey my message to Ravi?”

Bangar burst into laughter after the comment and Shastri also saw the funny side of the incident when he was informed of Harbhajan’s comments by Bangar.

England wasted a decent start as India bounced back in the third session and restricted the hosts to 285/9 at stumps. Sam Curran (24) and James Anderson (0) were at the crease when umpires dislodged the bails for the day.

Resuming the final session from 163/3, England batters failed to utilize the batting-friendly conditions at the Edgbaston Cricket Ground and went back back one after the other.

For India, star off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin took four wickets while Mohammad Shami took two wickets. Umesh Yadav and Ishant Sharma scalped one wicket each.
