Ahmedabad:
Woman bootlegger Saeeda alias Sitara Bhadbhuja (36) of Bapunagar managed to give cops the slip from the lock up of Bapunagar police station on early Thursday morning after she was arrested late on Wednesday night. However, she was re-arrested in Vadodara on
Thursday afternoon.
Interestingly, Sitara, who had earlier allegedly consumed poison when the cops had come to arrest her, this time around, bit her own tongue in the women lock up at about 5 am on Thursday to pretend that she was bleeding from the mouth.
The cops who were present in the police station, took her out of the lock up and made her sit on the bench.
However, at about 5 am on Thursday, when the cops dozed off, Sitara slipped out of the police station.
Deputy commissioner of police, zone- V, Himkarsingh, said that on Thursday, they traced her location to Vadodara and re-arrested her.
“We have suspended four policemen — PSO Dlipsinh Abheysinh, constable Bharat Dudhabhai, Lok Raksahk Dal (LRD) jawan Bharatsinh and woman LRD constable Sheetal Trikambhai for dereliction of duties,” said DCP Himkarsinh.
It is worthy to mention that local social worker Kalim Siddique and others had carried out a Janta raid on July 24 with police at Sitara’s liquor den and seized four bottles of Indian made foreign liquor.
Consequently, Sitara, her son Sikander, her brothers — Chand and Arif — threatened Siddique and others who were in the Janta raid with dire consequences and even ransacked four houses at Hasan Shahid Dargah area of Bapunagar.
Siddique alleged that terrorised by Sitara, four families had to migrate from the area. “Even the police were not acting on our complaint. We had to make a representation to police commissioner A K Singh and additional commissioner of police, sector- 2, Ashok Yadav,” said Siddique.
Additional CP Yadav said they have launched an inquiry to find out whether there was a nexus between some local police personnel and Sitara.
“We have also registered six different FIRs against Sitara and her accomplices for threatening locals including social worker Siddique. We have also formed different teams to nab other accused — Sikander, Chand and Arif — who have been named in the FIR,” added additional CP Yadav.
