CCTVs will expose human trafficking: Kejriwal

| | New Delhi

In the wake of  rising incidents of human trafficking in the national Capital, the Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has reiterated the issue of installation of CCTV cameras across the city. He said CCTVs will expose human trafficking in Delhi, .

"Complete breakdown of law and order in Delhi. Is it possible at such a large scale without collusion at the top? The BJP, L-G and Rajnathji ought to respond. People of Delhi feeling unsafe," Kejriwal said.

His comments came after the Delhi Commission for Women rescued 74 girls who were victims of human trafficking and were kept at various locations in Delhi. In a series of tweets, Kejriwal targeted the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Lieutenant Governor (LG) Anil Baijal and  Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh.

"CCTV cameras will expose such crimes, the people behind it and make police accountable. If police were to give license for CCTV, will police ever give license to install CCTV cameras at such places? Never," he added.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) also echoed the same. "If Delhi had been equipped with CCTV cameras then it would have been much easy to find out the places and people involved in the trafficking," said Saurabh Bharadwaj, AAP chief spokesperson.

The party said trafficking girls across national borders is much easier than transporting cows from one state to another. "The L-G and BJP are opposing CCTV because their illegal businesses like human trafficking will get exposed," he said.

Bharadwaj slammed the Ministry of External Affairs (MoEA) saying trafficking girls to and from India is not possible without the knowledge of the MoEA. He said while all these things are happening the Immigration department remained "blindfolded".

"In the last few days three cases of human trafficking has been registered in Delhi from Munirka, Maidan Garhi and one latest from Paharganj. These areas are known for its hustle and bustle hence it is impossible for the police to come up with an excuse that they had no idea about the human trafficking going on under their nose," said Bharadwaj.

The party said the initiative of Delhi Women's Commission helped in rescuing many girls from the above mentioned areas of Delhi who were brought from Nepal and the nearby areas and were about to trafficked to other countries like Dubai, Saudi Arabia and Sri Lanka.

"The trafficking of girls from Nepal has been going on in Delhi from a very long time but the police did not bother to investigate the matter and take action against it," he added.

"Not a single FIR has been registered on the name of human trafficking in Delhi. This proves the carelessness of police and the Central Government who are assumed to have an internal connection with the international syndicate. They are the ones who shout out slogans against a cow being trafficked but turn deaf and dumb on the trafficking of girls who are brought from different countries and kept in Delhi and later on sold to other countries," said Bharadwaj.
