With the rain keeping away on Wednesday, the city and other parts of the district limped back to normality.
Heavy rain on Monday night and Tuesday morning had caused widespread damage and claimed one life.
Four houses were destroyed and 69 were damaged in the district, according to preliminary estimates. The loss is estimated at ₹13 lakh.
The six camps opened in Thiruvananthapuram taluk on Tuesday were wound up on Wednesday after water levels receded and people returned to their houses.
Of the 20 families accommodated at a camp in Manacaud village, all but two returned to their homes. The remaining families were shifted to a different location.
One house in Cheruvakkal village was damaged, the tahsildar said.
Some areas under water
Though water had drained from many places, waterlogging continued to make life miserable for many people in some low-lying areas. At Kalady, water had to be pumped out of one house. There were reports of waterlogging at Muttathara, with vehicles having to ply through waterlogged service roads.
Plastic waste swept along by rainwater found its way into the Amayizhanjan canal. The situation was particularly bad in the Kannammoola area, with mounds of plastic disrupting water flow. Water had entered many houses. Mayor V.K. Prasanth who visited the area promised that plastic would be removed using machines.
In Neyyattinkara, 32 houses have been damaged in the rain so far. Four families in Kottukal village are accommodated in a camp. While water was receding in most places, in Adimalathura, it had to be pumped out.
In Chirayinkeezhu village, one house along T.S. Canal was destroyed. The four-member family there was shifted to a camp.
Walkway caves in
In Varkala, damage to two houses at Ottur and one at Vettoor was reported on Wednesday, while one house was destroyed in Navayikulam.
A portion of the walkway to the North cliff collapsed and a youth from Kashmir sustained minor injuries. Water had entered a few houses in the Edava area, but was slowly receding, officials said.
