JAIPUR: Acting on the long-pending complaint of the residents of
Gopalpura, the Jaipur Development Authority (
JDA) on Wednesday sealed five
commercial units, illegally operating in
residential areas.
Three other
illegal establishments that included a hostel, a library and a coaching center were vacated by the civic body. Enforcement officer, Raghuveer Singh Bhati said, “The drive was carried out after issuing the notices. We have sealed illegal shops and a restaurant, which were operational in residential areas. Despite serving warning, owners were carrying out illegal commercial activities.”
An official further informed, so far the JDA has sealed 20 illegal establishments in the area and owners of 15 establishments have applied for commercial conversion in zone. “The owners had made the arrangements for students and buildings were already vacant when action was taken against these establishments on Wednesday.”
The mushrooming of commercial establishments, especially coaching institutes in many residential areas had earlier forced residents to protest demanding action against these illegal institutes. The action was taken after the local residents’ welfare association presented memorandum to Jaipur Development Commissioner (JDC).
Ironically, residents of city mayor Ashok Lahoti’s colony, 10-B scheme were major victims of the coaching institute students, who are allegedly creating nuisance in the locality.
After the court imposed a ban on coaching institutes in Lal Kothi area, many coaching institutes shifted in the outer areas, including Ridhi-Sidhi Mod and surrounding colonies.
Since then residents were facing the wrath of unruly students living in hostels and renting-out spaces in illegally run private hostels. Moreover, drinking at public places like parks and roads and passing lewd comments, have put residents in a tight spot as they cannot move out of their houses freely.
The court had directed the JDA officials to carry out a survey of illegal commercial establishments and take action against them.
