SC allows release of Fanney Khan

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Wednesday paved the way for the release of Anil Kapoor and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan-starrer “Fanney Khan” by refusing to stay its scheduled screening on August 3.

Scindia raises LPG price hike issue in LS

New Delhi: Congress leader Jyotiraditya Scindia on Wednesday raised the issue of the recent LPG price hike in the Lok Sabha, wondering what kind of economics was being followed by the government. During the Zero Hour, Scindia said the price of LPG was hiked twice in July and the government has only shown “dreams of good days” to the people.

Prabhakar Singh retained as CPWD DG

New Delhi: Prabhakar Singh has been retained as Director General of Central Public Works Department (CPWD) for one year beyond the date of his superannuation. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Singh as the DG, CPWD, on re-employment basis for a period of one year beyond July 31, 2018 (i.e. the date of his superannuation). Singh has worked for over 36 years in different capacities in the CPWD.

SC begins hearing in adultery plea

New Delhi: Supreme Court’s five-judge Constitution Bench on Wednesday started hearing the petition seeking to make men and women equally liable for the offence of adultery, under Section 497 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Use of spikes against jumbos barbaric: SC

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Wednesday termed as “barbaric” the use of spikes and fireballs to drive away elephants and said that states should be desisted from using any such methods. “You have to remove these things (spikes and fireballs). You cannot have this barbaric system,” an SC bench observed.
