BHUBANESWAR: Wary of the dangerous social media trend on a Canadian rapper’s ‘Kiki dance challenge’, which requires people to come out of moving cars, dance beside the vehicle and then jump back into the moving car, the commissionerate police on Wednesday issued an advisory, asking people to desist from attempting the risky dance.

“The bizarre #kikichallenge is no daring act. We care for your safety, don’t dare such foolish stunts. Be smart, be safe in the #smartcitybhubaneswar,” read a tweet on the official twitter handle of deputy commissioner of police (@dcpbbsr). On Tuesday, the Odisha police too had tweeted and appealed to citizens to refrain from copying the life-threatening dance steps.

Contacted, DCP (Bhubaneswar) Anup Kumar Sahoo said that the police will take action against those car drivers, who encourage passengers to jump out of the moving vehicles to try the dance. “We so far have not come across any incident of people resorting to Kiki dance formula on roads. We chose the Twitter to educate people about the danger involved in the dance as the particular social media platform is widely used by tech-savvy people,” Sahoo told TOI. He said people can inform the police for action if they come across anyone practicing the unsafe challenge on streets.

‘Kiki Challenge’ or ‘In My Feelings Challenge’ is a latest song of Toronto-based rapper Drake. The song line, ‘Kiki do you love me’ has taken internet by storm as Twitteratis have been sharing and posting memes on the daredevil stunts shown in the song.

Road safety experts said the police should write to the social media managers to stop circulation of the dangerous videos on social media. “We know that it is a pan-India problem. Still, Odisha police should take the lead by writing to different social media houses to curb the circulation of the video on WhatsApp, Twitter and YouTube,” said Bikas Mohapatra, a road safety consultant.
