Since the opening of shutters of Cheruthoni dam has not been ruled out completely, Karumalloor panchayat in Paravur taluk, one of the local bodies likely to be affected, convened an emergency meeting to take stock of the situation.

The meeting chaired by panchayat president G.S. Shiju studied the vulnerable areas and the preparations to be taken. About 500 families in the panchayat are likely to be affected.

Ten potential relief camps were identified with Asha workers, health officials, Kudumbasree members and National Service Scheme volunteers. People likely to be affected will be asked to remain alert in a campaign to be led by people’s representatives.

The aged and the ill would be moved to hospitals and special shelters would be arranged for domestic animals.

Officials from the Paravur station of the Fire and Rescue Services Department conducted awareness classes on disaster management activities.
