Andhra approves unemployment allowance, to benefit 12 lakh youth

The has approved the "Mukhyamantri Yuva Nestam" scheme that makes unemployed youth in the state, eligible of receiving Rs 1000 per month from the government.

While addressing the media Andhra Pradesh IT Minister and (TDP) said, "12 lakh youth in the 22-35 group will be benefitted through the scheme. Registration for enrolling into the scheme will start from either third or fourth week of August. The scheme won't be applicable to those paying provident fund. We will implement the scheme in a very transparent manner like the pension scheme. The money will be credited directly into through biometric authentication."

"Simultaneously, we will impart skill development and train the youth in the fields of their interests. Also, by integrating state and central schemes, we will roll out apprenticeship programme through which the youth can get on-job training and upgrade their skills", he added.

Reportedly the data of unemployed youth of the state will be made available for industries and companies searching for young talent. However, the youth will cease to get the allowance once employed.

Lokesh said that the scheme was implemented in accordance to the poll promise made by during 2014 election campaign.

The state cabinet has also decided to fill 20,000 job vacancies, 9000 posts, and vacancies in other departments.
