LUDHIANA: A Punjab based NGO on Thursday sent a letter to PM Narendra Modi requesting him to allow commercial flights from Halwara Air Force Station.
Giving more information president of the foundation and senior congress leader KK Bawa said, “We have sent a memorandum to PM Modi and demanded to open Halwara airport for commercial flights as well. Ludhiana with its present Sahnnewal airport is still not well connected by air with rest of India as only a small capacity aircraft flies from here to Delhi which remains cancelled a lot of times. If commercial and cargo flights are allowed to operate from Halwara it will not only benefit travellers from city and businessmen but also the NRIs who visit their relatives every year in large number to Ludhiana and other surrounding areas”.

Bawa also said, “We have also appealed to Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh to take up this issue officially with the ministry of civil aviation and as the air force chief during his recent visit to Halwara himself had admitted that air force had no objections if commercial and cargo flights are started from Halwara”.
