Four charged after cars rammed, police injured in dramatic arrest

Four people have been charged after a series of alleged robberies in Sydney's CBD ended with police cars being rammed and two police officers injured during a dramatic arrest.

One man and three teenage boys were arrested on Wednesday night and charged over three separate alleged robberies, including one where a man was threatened with a sword.

The first incident happened just before 6.45am on July 24, when a woman walking along Mountain Street in Ultimo was approached by two men wearing hooded jackets. Police allege the pair assaulted the woman and attempted to steal her handbag, before driving away in a silver Mercedes AMG.

Shortly after a silver Mercedes AMG approached another woman on Bulwarra Road in Pyrmont. Police were told the woman was grabbed and her bag, containing a laptop and an iPad, was taken.

Just after 4am on July 30, a man was walking along Quay Street in Haymarket, looking at his phone, when he was punched in the head, knocking him to the ground.

It's alleged as the man lay on the ground, four males kicked and punched him before one of them pulled out a sword and took the man's phone. Police were told the group then left the scene in a silver Mercedes AMG.

On Wednesday, just after 5.30pm, a silver Mercedes AMG was spotted by police on Euston Lane in Alexandria.

Police attempted to box the allegedly stolen Mercedes in using two unmarked police cars, but the Mercedes allegedly attempted to escape by reversing into one of the police cars, which injured a female officer inside, before accelerating into other police cars.

A Dog Unit vehicle was also hit, and a male officer sustained cuts to his arms and legs.

After a scuffle with numerous police officers, a man and three teens who were in the Mercedes were arrested at the scene.
