Showing his deep concern over the horrible incidents of sexual abuse of minor girls at shelter home in Muzaffarpur, Governor Satyapal Malik wrote letter to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Patna high court Chief Justice and Union Law Minister Ravishankar Prasad. Malik has suggested for fast track court for disposal of cases related to exploitation of girls, boys and women besides the regular monitoring of the institutions where girls, boys and women are housed.

Appreciating the decision to handover the Muzaffarpur case where about 34 minor girls were sexually exploited at Balika Grih, the Government aided shelter home, the Governor expressed hope that the Government would take necessary steps for protection of the girls and women in such homes where they could spend a dignified life.

The Governor wrote the letter in the backdrop of the shock which the incident caused not only in Bihar but across the country and names of some VIPs also surfaced as culprits. The police had arrested ten accused including the kingpin Brajesh Thakur who owned the NGO that was running the affairs of the shelter home and which was funded by the Bihar Government’s Social Welfare department for the last five years.

The case was recommended for the CBI probe by the State Government and the central investigating agency took up the case on Sunday last. Its team has already inspected the premises of the shelter home where the residence of Thakur and the office of the newspapers owned by him are also located.

To register their protest all the Left parties have called Bihar bandh on Thursday which has been supported by the main opposition party RJD. The Left parties have also demanded immediate resignation or sacking of Social Welfare Minister Manju Verma, whose husband has been accused, and Urban Development Minister Suresh Sharma for his alleged involvement in the Muzaffarpur shelter home incident.
