FALL RIVER – The 10th annual Leo Strickman Memorial Tennis Cup, sponsor by Bay Coast Bank, began Thursday and runs through Saturday at the historic Fetherdic Tennis Club, located at the end of Phillips Street off of New Boston Road.

The clay court team competition, organized by the Fall River Community Tennis Association and Fall River Tennis & Education Foundation, honors the memory of Leo Strickman, a longtime tennis organizer in the city who coached the Bishop Connolly boys tennis team into his 80s.

The action gets opened Thursday with Team Fetherdic facing the Fall River Legends. The defending champion Somerset-Swansea Tennis Association takes on Fall River CTA tonight at 6 p.m.

There are four matches scheduled for Saturday: SSTA vs. FR Legends, 8 a.m.; Fetherdic vs. FRCTA, 10 a.m.; FR Legends vs. FRCTA, 2 p.m. And SSTA vs. Fetherdic, 4 p.m. Sunday is the rain date.

The SSTA, which captured the first three Strickman Cups, ended Fetherdic's five-year reign in the competition last summer.
