Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra was accused of assaulting and injuring a police constable after a party delegation was prevented from leaving Assam’s Silchar airport on Thursday.

A video tweeted by news agency ANI showed Moitra pushing Constable Rubi Rani Das and shouting as the policewoman pleads with her with folded hands. A photo showed Das bandaged later.

A eight-member team of Trinamool legislators and parliamentarians landed at the airport at around 2 pm to protest to review the National Register of Citizens (NRC) draft, but was detained because Cachar district, of which Silchar is part of, is under heavy security and has banned protests.

Trinamool Congress leaders protested their detention, calling it “super emergency”.
