Tajmahal to be converted into heritage hotel: MP Tourism Department

Madhya Pradesh Tourism Department has given Tajmahal situated in Bhopal on lease to be converted into a heritage hotel. Very soon the Bhopal’s Tajmahal will welcome people in the form of a heritage hotel. Principal Secretary, Tourism Department Hariranjan Rao told that the Tourism Department has acquired the possession of Benazir Mahal situated in Bhopal, Moti Mahal of Gwalior and Mahendra Bhavan of Panna. These buildings will also be converted into heritage hotels.

Rao said that renovation work has already started in the Govindgarh fort of Rewa. The fort will be transformed into a heritage hotel by the end of year 2019. Tender is being issued for the Benazir Mahal of Bhopal. Madhya Pradesh Tourism Department is working on transforming 6 heritage properties into hotels and convention centres in which tenders have been issued for Rajgarh Palace Khajuraho, Govindgarh fort, Rewa and Tajmahal of Bhopal and the properties have been made available on lease to the concerned agency.

Tenders will be issued soon for Madhavgarh fort, Satna, Rajgarh Palace, Datia and Benazir Mahal, Bhopal. Tenders will be issued very soon to turn Mahendragarh, Panna and Moti Mahal, Gwalior to heritage hotels. Tourism Department has the Keoti Fort of Rewa, Royal Hotel of Jabalpur, Vijayaraghavgarh fort of Katni, Sheopur fort of Sheopur, Narwar fort of Shivpuri, Lunera ka Sarayi of Mandu, Sabalgarh fort of Morena and Baldevgarh fort of Tikamgarh in the form of heritage property bank. Process is on to transform these monuments into heritage hotel.

Principal Secretary Rao told that the number of tourists is constantly on the rise in Madhya Pradesh in the last ten years. All tourism hotels are 90 percent booked in all seasons in Pachmarhi whereas comparatively, tourism hotels of other states have remained vacant.

Heritage hotels will play a major role in encouraging tourism in Madhya Pradesh. A hike of nearly 25 per cent is envisaged in the number of tourists in the state after making of heritage property.
