Indore: While junior doctors succeeded in getting chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s nod for increasing their stipend, the state government has come up with a plan to restrain them from observing strike in future.
Though additional chief secretary Radheshyam Julania discussed junior doctors’ demands in Bhopal on Tuesday, he asked officials of medical education department to explore whether PG students can be made to sign a bond at the time of their admission, which will restrict them from striking work.
“Government is planning to get a bond signed by the post-graduate students of all government medical colleges with the promise not to strike work,” MGM Medical College dean Dr Sharad Thora said. He said the issue is under discussion and no decision has been taken.
Medical education department sources said state government is planning to get similar bond signed by nurses and faculty members. “Government came on back foot after junior doctors went on strike. Department officials didn’t want to increase their stipend but succumbed to political pressure,” sources said. Chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan also announced to construct residential complex for junior doctors of all medical colleges with Rs 60 crore.
