An international drug racket has been busted and around 5 kg high-grade heroin was seized, the police said on Wednesday. The drug was worth ₹21 crore in the international market, they said
The accused have been identified as 27-year-old Nigerian national Chigemezu alias Obiji, Deepak Goel (28) and Harinder Pal (21). Obiji, who currently resides in Uttam Nagar, is the kingpin of the gang.
Tip-off, trap
On Sunday, the Special Cell received a tip-off that Goel and Pal would travel in a sedan from Rohini towards Singhu Border via Mukarba Chowk around 6 p.m. to deliver consignments of heroin to drug dealers.
A team was constituted and a trap was laid. The police started checking vehicles by barricading Mukarba Chowk. Around 6.30 p.m., the accused’s car was spotted, with two persons inside.
The driver was signalled to stop the car, but he tried to escape by taking a U-turn, but in vain. Finding themselves surrounded by the police, both the occupants of the car attempted to run, but were apprehended. They were searched and of 4.5 kg heroin was seized.
Crime record
During interrogation, they revealed that they used to source heroin from Obiji, their Nigerian accomplice. They further used to supply the drugs to dealers in Haryana and Punjab.
Goel said he was lodged in Patiala jail in a narcotic drug case, around two years ago, and he met Obiji there. Obiji was also lodged in that jail in another narcotic drug case. After getting bail, Goel contacted Obiji who had also come out of jail by then. Goel started procuring heroin from Obiji. Goel had been involved in drug supply for more than five years.
Pal who usually acted as a carrier had been involved in drug supply for more than two years. Both had procured more than 80 kg heroin and supplied the same to various drug peddlers in north India, said DCP (Special Cell) P.S. Khushwah.
Kingpin’s arrest
At Goel’s instance, raids were conducted in various parts of Uttam Nagar, and Obiji was arrested on Monday and 750 gm of heroin was recovered from him.
