Vinoy Kumar Singh, Director General (Prisons), said the officials of Prisons Department wish to see the same transformation in villages that has taken place in jails and all efforts would be made in that direction. He hoped to see crime-free villages soon.
Addressing a gathering after inaugurating My Nation Petrol Bunk established in association with the Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) here on Thursday, Mr. Singh said 14 petrol bunks were established so far, including the one at Kashipur, and they provided employment to prisoners who were willing to work. He said they were offering a salary of ₹12,000 for those working in petrol bunks in rural areas, while it was ₹15,000 in cities. “The plan is to establish 100 petrol bunks and provide employment to about 3,000 prisoners,” he added. “I feel the same reforms could be implemented in villages to make them crime-free. I wish to turn this into a social movement in which everyone would take part,” Mr. Singh said. On the occasion, he also inaugurated My Nation Food Court established on the premises of RTA office near petrol bunk.
IOCL chief general manager D.V. Ramana Rao said they established all the petrol bunks with the support of Prisons Department and all of them were running in profit.
Department senior officials Narsaiah, B. Saiaiah, Santosh Rai and others participated in the event.
