Vadodara: Blocked basement parking lots seem to be emerging as a major reason why parking is spilling on the roads in the western parts of the city. During the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) drive to clear parking spaces, it has come to light that the access to these was either blocked or visitors to complexes were not encouraged to park inside them.
Since Wednesday evening, razing teams of the civic body cleared parking space in 18 complexes in the Racecourse and Old Padra Road areas of the city. In seven of these complexes it came to light that the gates to the basement parking were either closed or visitors were not being asked to use these spaces.
VMC teams opened these gates and instructed the complexes to ensure that the basement parking was put to use to avoid roadside parking. The complexes were basement parking was not being used include My Restaurant, Sapphire, Emerald, Landmark, Trivia, Epsilon and Pelican.
On Wednesday morning too it had come to light that parking in the basement of a hotel on the Jetalpur Road was being used as a banquet hall.
