Heroin worth Rs 21 cr seized, 3 held

The Delhi Police Special Cell has busted an International narcotic drug cartel. Three members of the cartel were arrested with 5.250 kilogram of high grade heroin worth Rs 21 crore in the international market. The three accused were identified as Deepak Goel (28) resident of Sangrur District, Punjab, Harinder Pal (21) resident of Panchkula district in Haryana and one Nigerian national identified as Chigemezu (27).

“This gang was involved in supplying drugs to foreign countries, viz. France, Canada, England and South Africa. The gang used to employ different modus operendi for smuggling drugs to the foreign destinations. There are many couriers who were on the rolls of the gang and they took the consignment to the desired destinations. We are investigating who all were involved with this gang”, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Special Cell, Pramod Singh Kushwah said on Wednesday.

“Information was developed about this drug cartel after we received a specific intelligence input. At around 6 pm on Sunday, two persons Deepak Goel and Harinder Pal were spotted. The accused were arrested and 4.5 kg heroin was recovered from the spot. Special Cell had previous information on the cartel and suspected their involvement in smuggling heroin from Afghanistan. They were believed to supply drugs in Delhi and other North Indian cities”, Kushwah added.

Acting on a specific, a team led by Inspector Ishwar Singh under the supervision of ACP Attar Singh laid a trap on Sunday near Singhu Border. They were involved in the supply of drugs and were moving towards Singhu Border via Mukarba Chowk from Rohini side to deliver heroin consignments to North India based drug peddlers, he said.

 “The two persons arrested were interrogated after which they disclosed that they used to source heroin from their Nigerian associates in Uttam Nagar, Delhi who they identified as Chigemezu. Furthermore they would supply heroin to drug dealers in Haryana and Punjab” the, DCP said.

“Raids were conducted in various parts of Uttam Nagar area and on Monday Chigemezu was arrested. It was revealed that the Nigerian national procured Heroin from a Uganda national. Arrested Chigemezu also disclosed that said Ugandan national used to receive consignments of heroin from Afghan based Nigerian associates. Prince also disclosed that he also used to send consignments of heroin to other countries like Canada, South Africa, England, France and other countries. He also disclosed that many Afghan based Nigerians send consignments of heroin through Afghan Nationals who bring heroin in Delhi in their stomach by swallowing heroin filled capsules,” DCP stated.
