Accusing the BJP governments at the centre and the state of failing to provide employment to youths, the NSUI members staged a protest at the Collectorate in Jaipur on Wednesday.

The police used mild force to disperse the protesters. They also detained more than 100 NSUI members and later released them at different locations in the city.

State NSUI president Abhimanyu Singh said the BJP has failed to fulfil its promises of employment and scholarships and is now suppressing the sentiments of students. Use of lathis and water cannons on student is unfortunate, he added.

National NSUI chief Firoz Khan said the NSUI is taking out rallies across the country, as the BJP governments, led by Narendra Modi at the centre and Vasundhara Raje in Rajasthan, promised jobs to youths, but none has fulfilled the promises.

“Modi government has completed four years, but nothing has been done. Rather, budget of scholarships has been reduced and education institutes are being saffronised,” alleged Khan, adding that, “Through our rallies, we are trying to wake them up, as they cannot cheat students.”

Jaipur deputy commissioner of police Ashok Gupta said the NSUI members were trying to cross the police barricades. “Water cannons were used to disperse them,” he said, adding that more than 100 NSUI members were detained and later released.

He said the NSUI members wanted to march towards the CM residence, but were given alternate locations. “They agreed for Collectorate circle, but, there too, they tried to cross the barricades,” he added.
