Man killed as bike hits another in Balanga 

Balanga: One Manoj Nayak of village Ankuspur under the Nimapara police station died in a road mishap at Salajanga Chhak on the Pipili-Nimapara road late on Monday night. Nayak and Sudhansu Panda of nearby village Sagada both were returning from Bhubaneswar by two bikes. At Salajanga Chhak under the Balanga police station, Sudhansu hit Manoj’s bike from back and fled from the spot when Manoj died instantaneously. Locals identified the dead body and informed Manoj’s family. Manoj’s father Basanta Nayak lodged an FIR against Sudhansu with the Balanga police. Police reached the spot and seized the body and sent it to Puri for postmortem.

Lions Club donates 2 wheelchairs to rly stn 

Brahmapur: Lions Club, Brahmapur members met the Brahmapur Railway Station Manager on Tuesday and discussed regarding upgrading facilities in the station. They urged for constructing more urinals, dormitories, installing escalator and introducing a fast passenger train from Brahmapur to Puri. Besides, the club also donated two wheelchairs as senior citizens and PWDs are facing problems in the station. Among others, Soumik Sahu, Rajnikant Patro, Dharma Rao, Bhismachariya Chaudhury, Pradeep Kumar Pandi, Harihar Dash, Laxmikanta Mohanty, Dandapani Khadanga, Kedar Swamy Chaudhury and Sudhir Patnaik were present.  

Legal awareness meet held in Brahmapur 

Brahmapur: The Odisha State Commission for Women in association with the National Commission for Women organised a legal awareness programme here on Tuesday. State Commission for Women Chairperson Lopamudra Buxipatra and members Snehanjali Mohanty and Kusum Rath, Legal Officer Arabinda Patnaik, Pramila Tripathy and Mamata Panda attended as guests. Buxipatra said the commission has been constituted for the welfare of women and to save their legitimate rights. As violence against women is increasing, efforts are being made by declaring policies and launching various developmental programmes to curb it, she added.

National Lok Adalat held in Dhenkanal

Dhenkanal: A National Lok Adalat was held here at the civil court disposing of 63 motor accident cases, 10 marriage and family disputes and 99 civil and 41 criminal and bank dispute cases. The Adalat was guided by District Judge and Chairman of District Legal Service Authority Pranita Mohanty. A sum of Rs 36.47 lskh was collected towards refund of bank loans and Rs 19.82 crore paid as compensation to the victim families in accident cases. Among the judges, Biranchi Rath, Protima Panda, Lalatendu Jena, Sonali Pattanaik, Lily Senapati, Sujata Priyambada Swain, Sivani, Rekha Rani Nayak Special Judge Khirod Kumar Dash, Register Civil Court Sanjeet Kumar Nanda and Geetanjali Nanda participated in the legal process.

26 edu cases resolved at M’bhanj Pension Adalat

Baripada: A district-level Pension Adalat (Education Department) was held at the District Education Office premises here on Sunday with  Mayurbhanj DEO Ranjan Kumar Giri resolving 26 grievances. Among others, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan District Coordinator Vivekananda Sahu, Legal Retainer Binapani Rout, Shashidhar Biswal, District Science Inspector Jagannath Sahu, senior assistant Patita Paban Mohapatra and Satyanarayan Das conducted the programme, in which 26 Block Education Officers and a number of teachers took part.

Dhenkanal DLSA holds awareness camp

Dhenkanal: The District Legal Service Authority (DLSA) recently organised an awareness camp at the Kaimati High School to educate people on rights and safety of minors. District Judge Pranita Mohanty inaugurated the camp and spoke on Juvenile Justice Act. Registrar civil court Sanjat Kumar Behera also joined the camp.
