Arrests over shooting of tattoo parlour linked to Jake King, Toby Mitchell
Police have arrested three men over the shooting of a tattoo parlour owned by former Richmond hardman Jake King and linked to notorious underworld figure Toby Mitchell.
The arrests follow warrants being executed by the Echo Taskforce at residential properties in Dallas and Meadow Heights about 5am on Wednesday.
A 25-year-old Dallas man, a 26-year-old Meadow Heights man and a 23-year-old Dallas man were arrested and interviewed by police.
So far there is no known motive for the brazen attack on City of Ink on July 14.
The 43-year-old, who has been shot seven times in two separate incidents in 2011 and 2013, has no shortage of enemies, and many dangerous allies.
City of Ink was shot up about 2am, with five bullets striking the facade of the building on Clarendon Street in South Melbourne. No one was injured and the premises were closed at the time.
The 25-year-old Dallas man and the Meadow Heights man have both been charged with discharging a firearm at premises, using a firearm in a public place, reckless conduct endangering life, reckless conduct endangering serious injury, using a firearm in the commission of an indictable offence, using an unregistered handgun, theft of motor vehicle, fraudulently using registration plate and arson.
The pair will face Melbourne Magistrates’ Court this afternoon. The 23-year-old Dallas man was released pending further enquiries.
The tattoo parlour was opened in 2014 by the former bikie and the registered owner is now Richmond Tigers star Jake King.
However, it is understood stakes in the business are also held by Mitchell and Michael “Mick” Hamill, who was famously jailed for bashing Sam Newman in 1997.
