On Tuesday, Superintendent of Police S. Chandrasekhar Reddy faced what is every commuter’s nightmare — traffic jam.
It took the senior cop about 15 minutes to cover a distance of 1km from Pothireddypally Chowrasta to Collectorate while he was returning from the Indian Institute of Technology, Hyderabad (IIT-H), after reviewing arrangements ahead of President Ram Nath Kovind’s visit on August 5.
The birthday celebrations of a resident, Atmakur Nagesh, with a huge procession had led to the traffic jam. Irritated on being stuck for long, Mr. Reddy got down from the vehicle and stopped Nagesh’s procession to ask if he had obtained permission for it.
When he failed to furnish any proof of the permission, Mr. Reddy directed police officials to seize his vehicle and register a case against the party.
Restriction imposed
In what seems to be out-turn of his experience, the SP has imposed Section 30 of Police Act that would be in force from August 1 to 31.
In a press release here on Tuesday, Mr. Reddy said any procession or gathering will not be allowed without prior permission and action would be initiated against those responsible for violation.
