Private Sector Adds 219,000 New Jobs in July, Driven by Mid-Sized Firms

Monthly increase in ADP report was the largest since February

The U.S. private sector added 219,000 jobs in July, according to a report released Wednesday, the bulk of which were in medium-size businesses and in the service sector.

The monthly increase in July was the largest since February, when the private sector added 241,000 jobs, according to payroll processor Automatic Data Processing Inc. and forecasting firm Moody’s Analytics. July’s increase also beat projections from economists polled by The Wall Street Journal, who expected 185,000 new private-sector jobs.
