Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal on Tuesday said that since first group of Kawad Yatris is expected to enter Haryana soon, senior officers in the districts should complete all arrangements so that the kawads (devotes of Lord Shiva) may not face any inconvenience.

He was presiding over a meeting with deputy commissioners and superintendents of police in the state through video-conferencing here to review the arrangements for the Kawad Yatra.

The Chief Minister directed the officers to make arrangements regarding law and order, medical facility, availability of water and toilets besides ensuring smooth traffic while deciding the routes for kawads.

He desired that a nodal officer each should be appointed for the purpose from the Police, Civil and Health Departments in every district. Proper lighting arrangements should be made during the night time, he said.

Speaking on the occasion, the Education Minister, Ram Bilas Sharma, said since Panipat witnessed large footfall of kawads, welcome arrangements should be made for them. Also, a patrolling unit of the Police Department and medical van should be stationed, he said.

The Additional Director General of Police, Law and Order, Mohd Akil, informed that a meeting was held with officers of Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh on the Kawad Yatra and several decisions were taken to ensure its smooth completion.

Akil  said that he would himself review the arrangements with SHOs and DSPs of their respective areas. Additional police force would be made available in the districts. All deputy commissioners and superintendents of police would ensure installation of boards at significant places to guide the kawads about the route, he said.

In view of the Kawad Yatra, Yamunanagar, Karnal, Panipat and Sonipat are sensitive districts as the number of kawads there remains high. Similarly, the districts of Rohtak, Gurugram, Faridabad, Mewat and Palwal are sensitive from the viewpoint of law-and-order. Officers of these districts would remain alert and can even divert the routes, if required, the ADGP said.

Mohd. Akil added that special steps will be taken for the safety of female kawads and mobile toilets would be set up at different locations in the state.
