The Tamil Nadu government on Wednesday informed the Madras High Court that the Idol Wing cases have been transferred to the CBI saying that the team headed by IG Pon Manichavel has not submitted any reports in the past one year.
Along with his team, Pon Manickavel who was holding full charge as IG, Idol wing inĀ CID, recently recovered two 1000-year-old idols of Raja Raja Chola and Logamadeviyar from Gujarat, which were stolen 60 years ago.
Following this, the idols were handed over to the Idol wing team by the authorities of the Calico Museum on May 29. The team has already begun their return Chennai and are scheduled to reach Central railway station on Thursday evening.
According to the Idol Wing police, Raja Raja Cholan I idol (two and a-half ft in height) is valued at more than Rs 100 crore and that of his queen Logamadeviyar (two ft in height) is valued at Rs 50 crore.
