Nagpur: The directorate of technical education (DTE) and department of higher and technical education have warned colleges against charging 50% fee from eligible students who qualify for economical backward class (
EBC)
scholarship.
In separate communications to the colleges and Nagpur University, both the departments have also reiterated about the government decision of increasing the annual income exemption limit to Rs8lakh from Rs6lakh. The NU and colleges in the region have been asked to not to charge 50% of the fee while the rest of the 50% would be deposited directly into beneficiary students' account later.
“All principals are hereby informed that all students eligible for Rajshri Shahu Maharaj Educational Scheme Scholarship admitted in year 2018-19 should be charged only 50% of stipulated fee. Any institute overruling the said regulation will be liable to face subsequent consequences,” joint director of technical education Gulabrao Thakre said.
He added that the nodal officer appointed by DTE will soon visit to institutes to check the implementation of scheme as per norms.
In her letter to NU, joint director of higher education Archana Nerkar said the university must ensure that affiliated colleges adhere to the new norms as far as EBC beneficiaries are concerned.
Nerkar has organized a workshop for all principals at NU convocation hall at 11am on Thursday to create awareness about the new norms.
Nerkar’s letter also mentions about complaints being received by the government regarding colleges who are charging entire fee from EBC students.
On Wednesday, the NU too received a representation from different organization that colleges were neglecting the government resolutions regarding the scholarship.
