GAYA:
Gaya police on Tuesday arrested a non-teaching employee of a local college Shyam Prakash for sharing communally provocative post on the social media. He was subsequently forwarded to Gaya Central jail.
Son of an additional district and sessions judge, the college employee was arrested from his Nutan Nagar residence under the
Civil Lines police station area of the town. The ADJ, earlier posted in Gaya is at present posted in a north
Bihar district. Defying pressure from some influential sections, the police acted tough and promptly arrested the accused.
Confirming the arrest, SSP Rajiv Mishra said a criminal case has been registered against the college employee with the Rampur police station, as the college where the employee worked falls under the jurisdiction of the Rampur police station.
According to sources, the police action took steam off some miscreants trying to fan communal frenzy in the town. The provocative post targetted Prophet Muhammad.
This is the second such incident in the district. Earlier, a health department employee was arrested from
Bodh Gaya on similar charges and he was subsequently dismissed from service.
On several occasions, Gaya DM and SSP have warned social media users against posting/liking or forwarding such objectionable posts.
In another development, Waqar Ahmad, associate professor in the department of English, Gaya College, Gaya, has been put under suspension on the charge of demanding sexual favours from a post graduate student in lieu of good marks and managing her project work. A case was instituted against the teacher as the offer made on the girl student's mobile phone went viral.
Confirming the English teacher's suspension, VC Prof Qamar Ahsan said that during the suspension period, the teacher will have to mark his presence in Nabinagar College of the Aurangabad district. Departmental proceedings too would be initiated against the teacher. The incident has caused acute embarrassment to the academic fraternity.
