THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: As many as 45 students from various industrial training institutes (ITIs) in the state will fly to Singapore in September this year to have a first-hand experience on facilities and the curriculum of Singapore Institute of Technical Educations (ITEs). They will also attend a week-long training programme there to hone their entrepreneurship skills.
The chosen ones for this first-of-its kind programme abroad for
ITI students in the state are those who proved their mettle in the recentlyheld ‘India Skills Kerala 2018’ contest.
The students will proceed to Singapore for the training, which will also focus on personality development, in the second week of September.
The residential training programme at the three ITEs under the Singapore ministry of education has been arranged in association with ITE Education Service (ITEES), the Singapore ITE’s consultant wing, which is already working closely with 27 countries across the globe. The participating students will receive certificates from ITEES.
The state government has also decided to expand the project and conduct similar training programmes in other countries such as Germany and the UK in the coming years, giving opportunity for more ITI students.
With an aim to upgrade 10 ITIs in the state to international standards, labour and skills development minister T P Ramakrishnan had visited Singapore ITEs and had suggested such training programmes abroad.
Initiatives have already been taken to upgrade ITIs at Dhanuvachapuram, Chandanathoppu, Chengannur, Kattappana, Ettumanoor, Chalakudy, Malampuzha, Koyilandy, Kannur and Kayyoor.
