Yogi directs officials to setup control rooms and flood relief outposts to tackle flood

With Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath reviewing arrangements to tackle flood, rains swept across the state for the fifth day on Tuesday, leaving 12 dead and 7 injured in different parts. Thedeath toll due to rains now stands at 92. Reviewing the flood situation, the CM directed officials to ensure distribution of relief material to affected people under supoervision of people’ representatives and said that the government had already sanctioned Rs 380 crore to tackle the situation. Yogi directed officials to setup control rooms and flood relief outposts in each affected district along with boats to rescue victims trapped in the floods. The CM also asked to ensure that there was no shortage of food, medicines, LPG cylinders, kerosene or other life saving items and petromax light in flood affected areas. He said that all banks must be repaired and necessary preventive measures like spraying of pesticides etc be made in stagnant water to prevent disease from spreading. 

Yogi also directed that all departments engaged in flood control should send a daily update of the situation to his office so that necessary decisions could be taken immediately. Meanwhile, as per latest reports released by the state government on Tuesday, three people were killed in Kanpur Dehat, two in Hathras and 1 each in Chitrakoot, Auraiya, Allahabad, Unnao, Amethi, Jaunpur and Fatehpur. “With the recent deaths, the toll has reached 92 while the total number of injured is 91,” the report revealed. In these incidents, 59 cattle lost their lives and over 600 houses were also damaged. The Chief Minister directed senior officials of all districts to alert people and undertake extensive tours in affected areas to identify dilapidated buildings and get them vacated. Officials were also directed to provide immediate financial and medical assistance to people severely affected by rains.

As per Met office, the southwest monsoon is active over UP and as a result, moderate to heavy rains or thundershowers occurred at most places. 

Lucknow recorded 20 cm rainfall, Kanpur 19 cm, Fatehpur (Barabanki) 17 cm, Unnao 15 cm, Nawabganj (Barabanki) 15 cm, Kaiserganj (Bahraich) 14 cm, Safipur (Unnao) 14 cm, Dalmau (Raebareli) 12 cm, Chandradeep Ghat (Gorakhpur) 9 cm and 8 cm each in Hardoi, Ayodhya, Bindki (Fatehpur), Sirauli, Hamirpur and Agra. The Met office has forecast thundershowers or rains at most places over east UP and at many places in the westernregion on Wednesday.

As per a Central Water Commission (CWC) report, Sharda river was flowing above danger mark in Palia Kalan (Lakhimpur) and Sharda Nagar (Kheri), while Ghaghara river ws above the red mark at Elgin Bridge (Barabanki) and flowing near danger mark at Ayodhya and Turtipar (Ballia). Ganga river was rising in Fatehgarh, Kannauj, Kanpur Dehat, Fafamau (Allahabad), Ghazipur and Ballia, while Yamuna was rising in Agra and Banda. The report added that Gomti river was rising in Sitapur and Rapti was rising in Shravasti, Balrampur and Gorakhpur. Reports from Bareilly said that six labourers were killed and two others injured when a mound of earth they had dug out for laying a 4G cable line collapsed on them. The victims, working for a Mohali-based firm on Pilibhit bypass road, had dug a 15-feet-deep trench. They were preparing to lay the cable on Monday night when the incident happened. District Magistrate of Bareilly, Virendra Kumar Singh ordered a magisterial inquiry into the incident and an FIR was also registered. Works supervisor Dheer Singh and drill machine operator Anshul have been arrested. The deceased were identified as Habu (40), Mohirum (20), Nazimul (22), Nazeem (25), Kausar (25) and Hasan (30) of West Bengal. Local residents, Nagar Nigam and Civil Defence officials jointly handled rescue operations. The workers were trapped for hours before they could be extricated. Five of the workers died before they could be pulled out while another succumbed in the hospital. Two others were undergoing treatment at a hospital.
