HYDERABAD: While heavy rains in Uttar Pradesh and Kerala have been hogging the headlines, the
monsoon over some
Telangana districts, particularly Hyderabad, has so far remained weak. The rainfall deficit for Hyderabad in the season stands at 31 per cent.
Weathermen too do not hold out any hope for one more week. After making an hasty entry, the Southwest monsoon’s progress has been lax, leading to a sharp rise in temperature.
According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), deficit seasonal rainfall of 40 per cent was highest in Medak, followed by Sangareddy (39%),
Vikarabad (37%) and
Malkajgiri (31%).
Meteorologists attributed weakening of Southwest monsoon to confluence of several factors. "Currently, there is no weather system such as a upper air cyclonic circulation or trough which can result in rainfall over Telangana. An upper air circulation was formed over Bay of Bengal on Monday. But its intensity reduced as it moved towards northwest," said Raja Rao, meteorologist, IMD, Hyderabad.
Hyderabad among top 5 Telangana districts to get deficient rainfall
Hyderabad is among the top five districts in Telangana which received deficient rainfall pushing maximum temperature to 34 degrees Celsius on Tuesday.
The weathermen predict that the situation will only worsen with further rise in temperature.
With the dry weather conditions expected to continue over the state for some more days, revival of the Southwest monsoon can happen only by mid-August, Raja Rao said adding, “For the next one week, the weather conditions are likely to be the same. Southwest monsoon will only revive once the weather systems intensify over Telangana."
Experts aver that due to reduced moisture in the air, the humidity levels have decreased resulting in gradual rise in temperatures.
