ACT Fire and Rescue to burn down house in Monash

ACT Fire and Rescue is warning the community in Canberra's south to expect an increase in emergency service vehicles and personnel over the next 48 hours as they undertake training exercises.

From 9am on Thursday, August 2, firefighters will run a live and controlled house fire training drill on Kneeshaw Street in Monash.

"Senior firefighters who are being promoted to station officer level will be putting their leadership skills to the test as they supervise their crew in a real-time fire scenario," a statement from the ACT Emergency Services Agency said.

The house had been earmarked for demolition by Housing ACT and will be set alight in a series of controlled burns.

ACT Fire and Rescue said the exercise was also a chance for people to be aware of the increased risk of fires starting in the home in colder months.

In June ACT Fire and Rescue attended 25 structure fires, many of which were preventable.
