GURUGRAM:
Three criminals, who are aides of gangster Sandeep alias Dabbu, were arrested on Monday night by a crime branch unit of Gurugram police. Three country-made pistols were seized from their possession, police said.
Sonu alias Ritesh (30) and Harender (28), both residents of Garhi Harsaru, and Rakesh alias Raka (27), a resident of Farrukhnagar, were produced in court on Tuesday and sent to three-day police custody. They have several cases, including
murder and attempt to murder, registered against them.
The three men were active in areas along Dwarka Expressway and involved in
illegal cash collection from water tankers and other commercial vehicles passing through the area. No formal complaint was filed against that but police were informed about their activities.
DCP (crime) Sumit Kuhar said they were informed that three criminals were moving in the city with arms. “We had information about the movement of people carrying pistols, following which the crime unit of Palam Vihar arrested the three men from different locations in the city,” he said.
A team of the Palam Vihar crime unit, comprising inspector Paramjeet, sub-inspector Pramod and head constable Rambir Singh, set up a trap and nabbed Sonu from Shaheed Bhagat Singh Chowk.
On the other hand, Harender was nabbed from Rezang La Chowk and Raka from the Pala Vihar area.
At least 12 cases, mostly in Gurugram, are pending against Sonu, who became active in the criminal world in 2007. Harender and Raka are accused in murder cases and both were out on bail before being arrested again on Monday.
“We are expecting to resolve several cases with the arrests,” said a police officer, adding that they were expecting to get new information about other criminal activities during interrogation.
Nearly four years ago, all three men became
associates of gangster Sandeep alias Dabbu, a resident of Garhi Harsaru. Initially, Dabbu got in touch with Sonu and Harender, both of whom were living in his village. A little later, murder accused Raka was included in the gang.
Dabbu used to be the gang leader, identifying targets and making plans, and the other three would work under his instructions. However, Dabbu was arrested and stayed in jail for 3-4 years before recently being released on parole.
